“We listen to the Word of Jesus to nourish ourselves! This means that the Word
of Jesus is the strongest meal for the soul: it nourishes our soul, it nourishes
I suggest that every day you take a few minutes to read a passage of the Gospel,
to hear what happened there. To hear Jesus, and every day the Word of Jesus
enters our heart and makes us stronger in the faith. I suggest also that you
have a small Gospel,
a very small one, to carry in your pockets.”

Pondering & Reflecting on the
by Jim Murphy
This is an excerpt from a talk given by Jim Murphy at the March 2007 Leaders and
Helpers Day. It originally appeared in the September 2007 issue of GLEANINGS.
We have a beautiful model for the spiritual life in Mary, our
Blessed Mother. In Luke chapter 1:26-56 you can read about some defining events
in her life: She is told by an angel, “Hail, favored one! The Lord is with you.”
and God reveals to her the incredible news that she will bear a son and name him
Jesus. Then the angel tells her that Elizabeth, her kinswoman, is already with
child. Mary goes in haste to visit Elizabeth and is greeted with “Most blessed
are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb. And how does this
happen to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?” and then there is
that beautiful canticle that begins, “My soul proclaims the greatness of the
Lord…” (Luke 1:46-55)
From Sue's Desk
Recently I read a post on Facebook that really spoke to me and I felt strongly
that it was a message that was right on the mark. So of course I shared it on my
As I sit here at my desk asking the Lord what He would have me share with you
this month, I felt I was led to this post. I pray that it will speak to you, as
it did to me, and encourage you in your vocation. I think you will find it
challenging and helpful in her description of a great evangelist. After all we
are all called to evangelize. How else will the message of the Gospel reach to
the ends of the earth.
Charisms * Renewal * Unity
You are invited!
Aren’t those wonderful words to hear? When we are invited to someone’s house we
can expect to receive hospitality, to be cared for and even to be fed. When we
are invited to attend a concert or see a movie, we can expect that we may be
entertained. When we are invited to a wedding, we expect to witness a special
occasion and afterward will give witness to the love that we saw in the bride
Whenever we receive an invitation we are called to respond in some way; to
attend, to receive that which is offered, to be a witness to what is before us.
It’s the same when we receive an invitation from our Lord.
