A History of WWCCR

Then and Now:
Our Book and Tape Ministry

by WWCCR Staff

When WWCCR began in 1977, we inherited a couple of boxes of books on consignment from the Resurrection Community. In those early days, there were monthly leader’s meetings held at the WWCCR office at St. Thomas Seminary in Kenmore, WA. This brought people into our growing bookstore. Books and tapes were bought, read and listened to, and passed between prayer group members.

Our bookstore expanded dramatically under the careful management of Pat Corwin during the 80’s and 90’s. This enabled us to supply books to prayer groups for seminars and special events. We provide the books for our own conferences each year and are often invited to bring books to a variety of ministries and conferences throughout the Pacific Northwest. In 1996, Kate Storms came to be the Bookstore Manager and helped us sustain this important ministry. Then she left over a year ago. We currently do not have a Bookstore Manager and now office staff tries to make do by ordering books as needed.

Hosanna Tapes from Albuquerque, New Mexico recorded and produced many of our early conference audio-tapes. In 1986, we purchased our own tape-duplicating equipment. Under the dedicated ministry of Don and Catherine Holt and Chuck and Dagmar Williams, we were able to produce our own audio-tapes for sale. Don always seemed to have a tape recorder in his hands. He collected tapes from conferences and other events that began our tape lending library. Chuck created a database so that the tapes were categorized in a more useable format. Over the years, we’ve recorded or purchased over 2200 audio-tapes and over 150 videotapes that are available through our tape lending library. However, at this time, we do not have the staff to maintain and update the database or to make tapes for those who request to borrow them so the library is limping along.

In 1988, the development of Ron Ryan’s Born of the Spirit and Alive in the Spirit seminars put WWCCR into the publication business. Ron’s Prayer Group Leadership Development Program manual is now available in English and Spanish. His bible studies and other teachings are available as audio sets. Hundreds of these books and tapes have been shipped by our office throughout the country and overseas.

Books and tapes have played an important role in the education and growth of charismatics everywhere. Even now, people are donating books to our office. Some of these books, especially those that are now out of print, have been added to a book lending library so that they are still available. The rest of the books are put out in our bookstore as “recycled books” and available for a fifty cent each donation.

Our book and tape ministry is really intended to be just that—a ministry. It is here to serve the needs of the Renewal in our area and beyond. We don’t get very many people stopping by the bookstore during the week. Our ministry most often goes to where the need is: book tables at prayer meetings, conferences, and retreats. Books and tapes are sent to other renewal centers and bookstores around the country and used by groups around the country. From our small office in North Seattle, we are using the gifts and resources that the Lord has given to do our part to “evangelize, sanctify, and renewal the face of the earth.”
